UMBC Humans vs. Zombies Newsletter

Posted: October 16, 2012 by umbchvzofficers in Uncategorized

Hey HvZ players!

The officers are all recovered from the one-week and we hope you players are too. If you still have a bandanna from the weeklong please drop it off at one of the one-night missions or at the open officer meetings on Sunday (1pm in Commons 318!). If you don’t, we know who you are, and we will find you. If you lost your bandanna, you owe us $10. Bandannas not returned or otherwise compensated for will be considered stolen as per the waiver you signed when we gave it to you.

Also, on a serious note, use of excessive force is not okay. The following has now been implemented:

Use of excessive force is now defined as knocking someone off of their feet. This is regardless of location of incident.

Once someone is knocked off their feet, the game pauses. Both players and anyone who saw the incident NEED to stick around. This is very important because;

If any involved party leaves, guilt is assumed, and a warning is given.

These changes are meant to keep players both Human and Zombies safe and having fun. They mean that Zombies will take a little more care to only tag, and Humans can no longer make excessive force claims well after the fact. These are preemptive measures, and they will hopefully not be needed.

Upcoming Events:

Monday, October 15th is a one-night mission starting at 7pm in Lecture Hall 4.

Thursday, October 18th is a one-night mission starting at 7pm in Lecture Hall 1.

Please note, for the missions, we ask that you be sure to sign in for the one nights. If you come in late, that’s fine but please check-in before going out to play to make sure you are aware of any special rules that may be in play. Also keep in mind, that if you miss more than half the briefing, you must play zombie.

Zombie Prom is coming up on November 3rd! It’s at 7pm in the UC Ballroom. It’s our annual Halloween party with an optional mission! This year, the theme is Nightmare Before Christmas and it’s being DJ’d by the Phantom Gentlemen! We just got all the stuff approved (minus the cotton candy machine, but Katy’ll be okay). It’s shaping up to be pretty fun!  Any requests for music can be submitted here.

As always, check the website for dates and times for events. Shameless plug for the code monkey!

President: Chris Martini
Vice President: Andrew Allison
Treasurer: Elizabeth Kohl
Secretary: Katy McNeely
Recruitment: Peggy Barnett
Technician*: Ben Harris

*Technician is a new, unofficial position that we created because there was too much work involved in keeping up the server and other online things as well as fulfilling all secretary duties. If the newly elected officers like this new position, they may hold a Constitution meeting to make it official.

Voting is now LIVE!

To vote for next year’s officers, please visit
http://colacadstink.getmyip.com:800/voting.php
.  If you have any issues voting please contact me (phone number at top of server).  Voting closes Wednesday at 12:01AM.

There were some concerns about vote anonymity.  Due to wanting to be able to perform a recount and confirm vote accuracy, I will be storing the server’s internal user ID with the votes in the database.  The only way to access the voting information is by logging into the server as root, which only I have the password for.  Also, looking at the votes as they appear in the database, it is not at all apparent who voted for who, since these IDs are only used inside the server.  In theory I could determine who this person is by looking them up, but that would require me to actually want to do this.  As an elected official I promise to not abuse my power for things like that, and frankly, I don’t give a damn who voted for who – it’s a free country, vote for who you want.  If I want to know who you voted for I’ll ask, promise.

Game 3 Pregame Meeting

Posted: March 4, 2012 by umbchvzofficers in Uncategorized

Hey everyone,

Our third week-long game starts Monday, March 5th at 12am. If you are interested in playing, please come to the last pregame meeting, TODAY, at 7pm, in Lecture Hall 2. If you are unable to make the pregame meeting at that time, and you still wish to play, please email us as soon as possible so that an officer can personally brief and register you earlier in the day. Also remember there are no restrictions on weapons for the start of this game.

A big thanks to everyone who came out to our Invitational this Saturday and to all the officers and subofficers that made it possible.

End of the Semester Schedule

Posted: December 3, 2011 by umbchvzofficers in Uncategorized

Congratulations to the zombies, who won this past week’s full game!

Here are the plans for the rest of the semester:

Sunday, December 4 we’ll have an open officer meeting at 8 pm at the couches on the third floor of the Commons.  We’ll be primarily discussing Game 2.

Monday, December 5 and Thursday, December 8 will be our last one-nights of the semester.  We will meet in Lecture Hall 2 at 7 pm, as usual.

Saturday December 10 and 17 will be our last two games of the semester, so you can use the week to study for finals and such, and then spend some time relaxing on the weekend with HvZ.

Over the winter, we will be working hard on the Invitational that we’re hosting in the spring.  We’ll release the date soon.  If anyone wants to help us with any Invitational stuff, email us (umbchvzofficers@gmail.com).

Also, if there are a fair number of players on/around campus over the winter, we wouldn’t be opposed to having a game or practices every once in a while.  Let us know what your plans are!

As always, keep updated by checking the Facebook PageGoogle+ Page, the Google Calendar, and emails from the mailing list.
